You will be researching methods for on-device retraining on resource-constrained systems at the Josef Ressel Centre for Artificial Intelligence, which opened in 2024. The subject area of your dissertation will be self-adapting genetic algorithms that are used in the field of energy management. These algorithms should run on a microprocessor and adapt autonomously to changing environmental conditions. Core tasks as a PhD student at the Josef Ressel Centre for Embedded AI include research activities in the field of self-adapting genetic algorithms and the writing of publications and a dissertation. In addition, you will be involved in organisational and administrative tasks and supervise students. You will also have the opportunity to take part in scientific events. You will write your dissertation together with a supervisor at one of our partner universities, while in the Embedded Systems research group a UAS professor will provide additional support as a direct contact person. This position has a limited duration of 4 years.

We are looking for a qualified candidate with a relevant university or college degree at diploma or master's level. In-depth knowledge in the field of embedded systems or artificial intelligence is a prerequisite. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific mindset, excellent English language skills and a strong innovative spirit. Organisational talent and the ability to work independently and reliably are also important requirements for this position.
